Regis Falls to Lyons in Non-Conference Match

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was defeated, 2-0, by Mount Holyoke Thursday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Lyons struck first just over a minute before halftime in the 28th minute of action. After earning a penalty corner, the Lyons kept the ball in the circle to pressure the Pride defense, scoring just after Jayonna Montigny met Sophia Guziewicz with a pass to find the back of the net, leading 1-0 into halftime.

The Lyons extended their lead in the third quarter, with Guziewicz scoring off a penalty corner, to lead by two. The Pride responded with a shot by Mariana Agahigian (Reading, Mass.) but could not get past Lyons goalie, Rachel Katzenberg.

The Pride pushed past the Lyons defense in the fourth quarter to collect a penalty corner in their favor. Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) took a shot but was unable to make it past Katezenberg, to result in a final of 2-0.

Mount Holyoke outshot Regis 17-5, while also leading 14-4 in penalty corners.

Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) played all 60 minutes in goal, and finished with six saves off eight shots on goal.

Katzenberg finished with two saves off of two shots for the Lyons.

Regis (3-7, 2-4 GNAC) is scheduled to host Dean College (3-4, 6-7 GNAC) on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11:00 a.m.
