WESTON, Mass. – Regis College battled Colby Sawyer throughout today's match, but the Chargers were able to prevail with a 4-1 victory over the Pride, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Regis Stadium.
Colby Sawyer controlled the play early, taking their first shot just minutes into the match. The Chargers would score 7:24 into the match as Courtney Larson earned her first goal of the season, leading 1-0 into the second quarter.
The Chargers threatened to extend their lead early in the second quarter, with a shot from Sabrina Lippold after a penalty corner. Colby-Sawyer found the back of the net just minutes later with an unassisted goal by Brooke Farquhar, to lead 2-0 into halftime.
The Pride had some offensive action in the start of the third quarter, however a shot by Mariana Agahigian (Reading, Mass.) could not find its way past Chargers goalie, Carly Bernard. Regis held Colby-Sawyer in the third quarter to no goals, while goalie Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) earned two saves in net, and Macie Mannone (Lunenburg, Mass.) coined a defensive save.
The Pride quickly struck at the start of the final quarter. After taking a shot that was saved on net by the Chargers goalie, Kailey Araujo (Acushnet, Mass.) scored the first Pride goal of the match. The Chargers responded with two additional goals to extend their lead, resulting in a 4-1 final.
Velez finished with eight saves, while facing 12 shots on goal. Bernard earned two saves, facing three shots on goal for the Chargers.
Regis (2-5, 1-3 GNAC) is scheduled to host Rivier University on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 4:00 p.m. Colby Sawyer (6-3, 4-1 GNAC) is set to travel to New England College on Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a 7:00 p.m. start.
