Regis Field Hockey Loses Conference Road Match

STANDISH, Maine. – Regis College battled Saint Joseph's College, but the Monks were able to prevail over the Pride, 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at SJC Athletics Complex.

The Monks first scored just after 10 minutes of action in the first quarter. Sadie Tirrell carried the ball on her stick and maintained possession up the field towards the Pride defensive zone to then send a pass to Kienna Haley. Haley dribbled to the left goal post, flicking the ball into the back of net with a reverse stick for the first Monks goal of the game.  

The second Monks goal came just after the start of the second quarter. After receiving a cross pass leading into the circle, Isabella Littler was able to draw out the goalie and defenders to score the second goal of the match. The Monks added to their offensive insurance scoring an additional two goals, leading 4-0, heading into the second half.

Just minutes into the fourth quarter, the Pride saw some opportunity in their offensive end with Mackenzie O'Shea (Sharon, Mass.) taking a shot on goal. However, O'Shea was unable to get past Monks goalie, Kassidy Collins. 

After a scoreless second half, the Monks made multiple attempts to extend their lead but could not push past the Pride defense, finishing with a final score of 4-0, with Saint Joseph's College to clinch the conference victory.

Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) faced 11 shots on goal, while making seven saves for the Pride.

Collins faced one shot on goal, and was credited with one save for the Monks.

Regis (2-4, 1-2) is scheduled to face Colby Sawyer on Saturday, Sept. 28, to kick off Regis Fest, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saint Joseph's College (3-5, 3-1 GNAC) is set to travel to face Anna Maria College on Friday, Sept. 27, with a start time of 6:00 p.m.
