Regis Drops to Simmons, 6-0

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College battled against Simmons University, but ultimately fell 6-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Regis Stadium.

The Sharks put their first goal on the board at 9:36 with Lily Taglieri pushing past the Pride defense to find the back of the net, leading by one heading into the second quarter.

Just after a penalty corner and a shot gone wide for the Sharks, Sydney Gonyea sent a pass to Anna Tedeschi to score the second goal of the match in the beginning of the second quarter. Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) responded and was able to get a shot off from inside the circle but was blocked from a defender.

Regis started off the third quarter with Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) taking a shot, however she was unable to get past Sharks goalie, Haley Bright. Simmons extended their lead by three in the third quarter, to lead 5-0.

The Sharks earned a penalty stroke to score their last goal in the fourth quarter, finishing with a final score of 6-0.

Alley led the Pride with three shots, while Costello and Mackenzie O'Shea (Sharon, Mass) took one shot in today's match.

Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) finished the match with 14 shots on goal, making eight saves.

Regis (2-3, 1-1 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to Saint Joseph's College on Tuesday, Sept. 24 with a 6:00 p.m. start. Simmons (7-1, 3-0 GNAC) is scheduled to host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 5:00 p.m.
