Field Hockey Pulls Away for GNAC Road Victory

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Regis College controlled the action throughout the night, slowly pulling away for an 8-0 victory over Elms College Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Leary Field.

The Pride drew four penalty corners within the first five minutes of action, but could not convert on any of them. Finally, with just over nine minutes elapsed, Mackenzie O'Shea (Sharon, Mass.) earned the first goal of the contest, and then she assisted on the first career collegiate goal by Teal Galligan (Acushnet, Mass.) two-and-a-half minutes later to increase the Regis lead to 2-0.

Midway through the second quarter, Hailey Ducharme (Millville, Mass.) converted on a rebound off her own shot for her first career collegiate goal, giving the Pride a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. Less than six minutes into the third period, Mariana Agahigian (Reading, Mass.) fed a penalty corner to Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.), who converted the shot for her first goal of the season.

Elms (0-5, 0-2 GNAC) drew three penalty corners early in the fourth quarter but could not create a shot from those. After a shot by Ducharme was stopped by Elms goalie Katelyn Volk, Izzy Cochrane (Hooksett, N.H.) converted the rebound for her first career collegiate goal.

In a span of 2:39, Alley scored twice to complete her second career hat trick, with both of them coming against the Blazers, and assisted on a goal by Anna Miele-DeFelice (Framingham, Mass.). Alley tied the all-time scoring record of 74 career points held by Regis Athletics Hall of Famer Caitlin Connolly, plus she is closing in on both the career goals and career assists school records.

Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) earned the victory for the Pride in her first start of the season. Volk finished with seven saves and three Blazer defenders collected a defensive save each as the Pride peppered the Blazer net with 18 shots on goal.

Regis College (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) will host Simmons University Saturday, Sept. 21, at Regis Stadium beginning at 10 a.m.
