Field Hockey Clinches GNAC Berth With Convincing Victory

WESTON, Mass. - On Senior Night, Regis College made sure its seniors would have at least one more match in their collegiate careers, as the Pride defeated Anna Maria College, 4-0, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

The victory improved Regis' GNAC record to 5-7, currently placing the Pride in eighth place a half-game ahead of University of Saint Joseph. Even if USJ defeats Johnson and Wales Wednesday night, Regis will earn the eighth seed based on its 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays Sept. 30.

After a scoreless first quarter, Regis struck just over nine minutes into the second quarter as Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) shifted the loose ball around the defense and sent a shot into the net for her first goal of the night. With 1:25 remaining in the first half, Gracie Marsh (Orange, Mass.) pushed a pass towards the left post, and Belle Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) found an open spot over the goal line.

Just over nine minutes into the third quarter, Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) pushed the ball up the field and sent it towards the net, with Celli redirecting it into the net for her second tally of the night. It would mark Alley's eighth assist of the season, breaking a 20-year-old school record for most assists in a single season originally set by Kimberly Luciani in 2003.

Juskiewicz added one more goal with 3:21 remaining in the match for her sixth goal of the season. For the match, Regis outshot Anna Maria, 21-4, including a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal. Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) picked up the victory in net for the Pride as she notched her first career shutout.

Hannah Tobey started in goal for Anna Maria and made three saves in the first quarter before Carly Dedrick took over in the second quarter and collected three saves of her own. Tobey returned to the match for the entire second half and earned five more saves.

Before the match, Olivia Bell (Poland, Maine), Chloe Grande (Topsfield, Mass.), Juskiewicz, Ashley Monteiro (Kingston, N.H.), and team manager Jocelyn White were recognized for their contributions to the Pride field hockey program.

The entire bracket for the 2023 GNAC Field Hockey Tournament is scheduled to be announced after regular season play concludes Wednesday, Oct. 25. The quarterfinals will take place Saturday, Oct. 28.
