Regis defeats Albertus Magnus, 3-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Regis College field hockey team defeated Albertus Magnus College 3-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Friday.

The Falcons applied offensive pressure quickly into the match, gaining possession and advancing into the offensive circle to earn a penalty corner. Just over three minutes into the game, Gabriella Dellacroce scored her first goal with assists from Kayla Clark and Amber DeJonge.

The Pride took control of the possession and ramped up its offensive attack, but Falcon goalie Samantha Helwig continually kept the ball from getting behind her into the net, as she made 11 saves through the first 50 minutes of the contest.

With just eight minutes left in the game, Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the game. Less than four minutes after her goal, Alley connected with Belle Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) with a pass inside the circle, as Celli scored to give the Pride a 2-1 lead.

Albertus Magnus scored 34 seconds later to bring the match back into a tie, but the Pride didn't let up. On an offensive breakaway, Alley slipped a pass to Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine.) for the game-winning goal with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Pride outshot the Falcons 19-8 and secured nine penalty corners compared to Albertus's four penalty corners. Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) made three saves as she earned the victory for the Pride, while Helwig finished with 13 saves for the Falcons.

Regis College (4-12, 4-7 GNAC) hosts Anna Maria College Tuesday, Oct. 24, starting at 7:30 p.m. Before the match, the seniors will be recognized in the Senior Night presentation.
