Regis Field Hockey Loses at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. - Regis College lost to New England College, 8-2, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Don Melander Field.

The Pilgrims struck early in the first quarter with two goals in the span of 52 seconds by Drea Chin and Mikayla Vincent. Chin would earn her second tally of the night just over two minutes into the second quarter, and then she would assist on a goal by Adelaide Kelly later in the period.

The Pride broke through on the scoreboard with 3:37 remaining in the second quarter as Anna Miele-DeFelice (Framingham, Mass.) scored her first career collegiate goal off an assist from Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.). Meanwhile, Regis goalie Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) made five saves in the second quarter to keep her team relatively close heading into halftime.

Two more quick strikes by the Pilgrims early in the third quarter, this time in a 41-second span, extended the home team's lead to 6-1 and included Kelly's second goal of the night as well as Chin's third tally of the match. Cristina Manzi scored just over six minutes into the third quarter, and Chin added her fourth goal of the contest in the fourth quarter.

The Pride kept fighting, earning three penalty corners and five shots in the fourth period, with Chloe Grande (Topsfield, Mass.) scoring her first goal of the season with 6:53 remaining in regulation. Martone finished with 12 saves in the match, while Allie Colburn (Rockland, Maine) and Olivia Bell (Poland, Maine) were each credited with a defensive save.

Alley led the Pride with six total shots, while Chin led all players with 14 total shots, including nine shots on goal. Makenzie Anderson started in net for the Pilgrims and made two saves through the first three periods before Amy Philbin took over in the fourth quarter and made one save.

Regis College (2-9, 2-4 GNAC) heads to Dean College to face the Bulldogs Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 12 p.m.
