Regis Field Hockey Loses at Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Regis College battled Mount Holyoke College throughout the night, but the Lyons were able to prevail with a 4-1 victory over the Pride Thursday evening in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at the MHC Turf and Track Complex.

Mount Holyoke (7-4) controlled the play early in the match, drawing three penalty corners within the first five-and-a-half minutes of the contest. The Lyons would score 5:38 into the first quarter as Sophia Guziewicz would earn a goal off an assist from Anna Induni.

The Lyons threatened to extend their lead early in the second quarter, but two shots by Induni were turned away by Regis goalie Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.), while a shot by Amanda Thibodeau hit the post. With three minutes remaining in the period, Thibodeau would pick up an assist on a goal by Laurissa Montigny that gave Mount Holyoke a 2-0 advantage.

Right before halftime, the Pride had an opportunity to cut their deficit in half as Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) eluded the Lyon defense down the field, but her shot from close range was stopped by Lyon goalie Rachel Katzenberg.

Mount Holyoke quickly struck just over a minute after halftime thanks to a goal by Linnea Alsted, and then Alsted scored again midway through the third quarter with Jayonna Montigny picking up the assist.

Regis finally broke through just under two minutes into the fourth quarter as Alley sent a backhand shot into the goal for her eighth tally of the season. Meanwhile, Martone kept the Lyons off the board in the final period with three of her 11 total saves.

Regis College (1-8) hosts University of Saint Joseph Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. to begin the Regis Fest action at Regis Stadium.
