Field Hockey Loses GNAC Contest to Lasell

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College lost to Lasell University, 8-1, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

The Lasers jumped on the scoreboard just three-and-a-half minutes into the contest when an entry pass by Kaylene Ellis was redirected into the net by Lily Stark for her first goal of the night. Lasell continued to pressure the Regis defense in the opening period, but the Pride prevented the Lasers from extending their lead before the end of the first quarter.

Two minutes into the second quarter, Sheridan Blaha scored her first goal of the match. With just under five minute remaining before halftime, Stark struck again to increase the Lasell advantage to 3-0 heading into the intermission.

Stark continued to send the ball toward the Pride goal in the third quarter, earning an assist when Blaha redirected one of those chances into the net. Stark would then complete her hat trick later in the period with an unassisted tally, followed by an unassisted goal by Ellis late in the quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Pride put together an offensive threat which finally paid off when Maddy Monier (Laconia, N.H.) tapped the ball into the Laser net for her first career collegiate goal. Lasell earned two more goals in the fourth quarter as Mckensie Lennon and Kaitlin Bedell each scored for the Lasers.

Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) played the entire match in net for the Pride and finished with nine saves. Courtney Tello played the first three quarters for the Lasers and was credited with four saves before Abby Boudreau took over for the fourth period.

Abbey Playle continually advanced the ball into the Laser offensive zone and finished with a match-high nine total shots. Blaha finished with six total shots, while Stark ended up with five shots as the Lasers totaled 29 shots in the contest.

Regis College (0-7, 0-3 GNAC) hosts Elms College Saturday, Sept. 23, starting at 12 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Lasell University (6-0, 4-0 GNAC) travels to face University of Saint Joseph Saturday, also with a 12 noon start.
