WESTON, Mass. - Regis College grabbed the early advantage, but UMass Dartmouth worked its way back and eventually prevailed, 3-2, Thursday night in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

The Pride struck first last in the first quarter as a shot by Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) was turned away by Corsair goalie Hannah Trombly, but Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.), stationed at the right post, redirected the rebound into the net for her third goal of the season.

The second quarter saw play remain in the middle of the field for the majority of the period. With just over four minutes left before halftime, Ashley Monteiro (Kingston, N.H.) sent a long pass towards the goal, and Gracie Marsh (Orange, Mass.) hustled to get her stick onto the ball for a redirection into the net for her first goal of the season to increase the Pride lead to 2-0.

UMass Dartmouth quickly advanced the ball and applied its own offensive pressure, as Sam King's pass from the right post was redirected by Brooke Lydon into the net with 1:32 left in the second quarter.

The Corsairs continued to control the possession as the second half commenced, tying the match midway through the third quarter when Maggie McCafferty found Harley Hodge for her second goal of the season.

UMass Dartmouth remained aggressive in the fourth quarter, drawing a penalty stroke opportunity with 7:19 left in regulation. McCafferty converted on the scoring opportunity for her second tally of the season, and the Corsairs held off the Pride the rest of the night.

After Regis outshot UMass Dartmouth 5-1 in the first quarter, the Corsairs enjoyed a 15-3 shot advantage the rest of the match as well as a 12-5 edge in penalty corners after the Pride took the first three penalty corners of the contest. Lydon led the Corsairs with five total shots, followed by Sam Gacioch with four total shots.

Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) played the entire match in net for the Pride and collected six saves, with Olivia Bell (Poland, Maine) and Macie Mannone (Lunenburg, Mass.) each notching one defensive save. Trombly earned her second victory of the season for the Corsairs.

Regis (0-5) is scheduled to return to conference play with a match at Rivier Saturday, Sept. 16, starting at 11 a.m. UMass Dartmouth (2-4) starts its league schedule at Western Connecticut State Saturday at 3 p.m.
