Field Hockey Loses on Road in Season Opener

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Regis College field hockey team was defeated by the Salve Regina Seahawks, 11-0, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

The Seahawks scored three times in the first quarter and two times in the second, bringing the score to 5-0 at halftime.

The Pride gained some opportunity in the offensive circle in the third quarter with a shot from Ashley Monteiro (Kingston, N.H.) turned away by Seahawk goalie Bryn Protheroe, and a shot gone wide from Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.).

Liv Santiago led the Seahawks with a hat trick. Georgia Costello, Julia Decker, and Jordyn Pineau tallied two goals each, while Kira Spedden and Shannon Kennedy both put one goal on the board.

Regis goalie Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) had seven saves in the first half and added eight saves in the second half. Monterio chipped in with a defensive save, along with Macie Mannone (Lunenburg, Mass.) for the Pride.

Regis hosts Eastern Connecticut State in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, at 4:30 p.m.
