Regis Field Hockey Aiming for Success as 2023 Schedule Finalizes

2023 REGIS COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY SCHEDULE

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College field hockey program has announced its competition schedule for the 2023 season, including eight home matches and one more conference contest than in the previous two seasons.

The Pride open their season on the road Saturday, Sept. 2, at Salve Regina before facing Eastern Connecticut State in the home opener Wednesday, Sept. 6. Regis heads west to Worcester for another road match, taking on Clark University Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9.

Regis begins its league slate with the defending GNAC champion Johnson and Wales Wildcats at home Tuesday, Sept. 12, and then welcomes UMass Dartmouth to Weston for a non-conference match Thursday, Sept. 14. The Pride head back on the road Saturday, Sept. 16, at Rivier before consecutive home contests against Lasell Wednesday, Sept. 20, and Elms Saturday, Sept. 23.

After their final regular season non-conference match at Mount Holyoke Thursday, Sept. 28, the Pride open the Regis Fest tripleheader on the turf field by hosting University of Saint Joseph Saturday, Sept. 30. Regis starts the new month on the road with first-year GNAC member New England College Wednesday, Oct. 4, followed by a trip to Dean College Saturday, Oct. 7.

Regis hosts Saint Joseph's College Tuesday, Oct. 10, before a three-match road swing takes the Pride to Simmons Saturday, Oct. 14, to Colby-Sawyer Wednesday, Oct. 18, and to Albertus Magnus Saturday, Oct. 21. The Pride close the regular season with a home contest against Anna Maria Tuesday, Oct. 24, a rivalry in which 10 of the last 11 matchups since 2012 have been one-goal decisions, including four overtime matches.

Even with the addition of New England College, the GNAC Field Hockey Tournament remains in an eight-team format, with the top four squads in the final regular season standings hosting quarterfinal contests Saturday, Oct. 28. The semifinals will take place Wednesday, Nov. 1, with the championship match hosted by the highest remaining seed set for Saturday, Nov. 4. In 2022, Johnson and Wales defeated Simmons in the title contest, 3-1, to win the GNAC Field Hockey Tournament and earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.

Regis College stayed in contention for qualification to the GNAC Tournament in 2022 with three conference victories, ending up in a tie for eighth place with USJ.

Field hockey is one of the intercollegiate sports sponsored by Regis College within NCAA Division III as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
