Bell, Juskiewicz Lead Pride Field Hockey in NFHCA Academic Honors

GENEVA, N.Y. - Regis College juniors Olivia Bell (Poland, Maine) and Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) have been named Division III Scholars of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), announced Thursday, Feb. 16, by the national organization.

The NFHCA Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.9 or higher in the first semester of the 2022-23 academic year. In total, 473 student-athletes within Division III received the high academic honor.

Bell earns her second consecutive NFHCA Scholar of Distinction award for her high academic performance as a nuclear medicine major. On the field, she started all 16 matches she appeared in, earning defensive saves at Saint Joseph's College Sept. 28 and at Anna Maria Oct. 13.

Juskiewicz, a business management major, also started all 16 matches she appeared in during the 2022 season, finishing with three goals and two assists for eight total points. She scored the game-winning goal during the second overtime period at Elms Oct. 1, plus she also scored goals against Clark Sept. 13 and against Dean Sept. 24.

Last Thursday, Feb. 9, Bell and Juskiewicz were named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad along with six other members of the Regis College field hockey team. The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors undergraduate collegiate student-athlete who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.

First-year midfielder Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) appeared in 16 matches, including 15 starts, and finished with three goals and two assists for eight total points. Costello was selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Field Hockey All-Sportsmanship Team and is majoring in nursing at Regis.

First-year back Macie Mannone (Lunenburg, Mass.) started all 16 matches she appeared in and helped the Regis defense post a shutout victory over Dean Sept. 24. Mannone is majoring in early childhood education at Regis College.

Sophomore Gracie Marsh (Orange, Mass.), an exercise science major, started all 16 matches she appeared in, collecting one goal and one assist during the 2022 season. She scored the goal during Regis' 4-2 victory over Albertus Magnus Sept. 10 and picked up the assist in the team's 4-0 victory over Dean Sept. 24.

Junior Ashley Monteiro (Atkinson, N.H.) started all 16 matches she appeared in, picking up two assists along the way. She earned one assist each against Dean Sept. 24 and at Lasell Oct. 19. Monteiro is majoring in nursing at Regis.

First-year forward Mackenzie O'Shea (Sharon, Mass.) appeared in 12 matches off the bench for the Pride during the 2022 season, taking her first career collegiate shot against Albertus Magnus Sept. 10. O'Shea is majoring in dental hygiene at Regis.

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) appeared in 14 matches, including 13 starts, and played close to 800 minutes in goal for the Pride. The social work major finished the season with a 3.76 goals against average and a .648 save percentage with 92 total saves.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the association is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game.

Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, including field hockey, within NCAA Division III as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
