Field Hockey Loses at Saint Joseph’s College

STANDISH, Maine - Regis College faced one of the top teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, as Saint Joseph's College pulled away to defeat the Pride, 12-2, Wednesday evening in a league field hockey contest at the SJC Athletic Complex.

The Monks struck first midway through the first quarter as Aimee Adams scored off an assist by Molly McCluskey. Maya Waryas scored back-to-back goals with 58 seconds remaining in the first period and 2:50 into the second quarter to increase the home team's lead to 3-0.

Saint Joseph's College received tallies by Megan Quirion and Morgan Dalton in the second quarter. Right after Dalton's goal, Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) broke through for the Pride with her seventh goal of the season, but Adams scored just over a minute later to reestablish a five-goal advantage for the Monks at halftime, 6-1.

Alley would pick up her second goal of the match 29 seconds into the third quarter off an assist by Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) to pull Regis within four, but six unanswered goals by the Monks, including five in the fourth quarter, put the match away. Adams finished with six goals and one assist, while McCluskey, also scoring in the fourth quarter, dished out four assists and Quirion added a goal and three assists.

Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) started the match for the Pride and made four saves in the first half before Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) took over after halftime and collected five saves in the second half.
