Pride Field Hockey Loses at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Regis College battled one of the top teams in the league in Colby-Sawyer College, but the Chargers were able to prevail over the Pride, 5-0, Sunday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey match at the Sally Shaw Veitch Track and Field Complex.

Colby-Sawyer (11-3, 7-1 GNAC) struck first midway through the first period, taking advantage of consecutive penalty corner opportunities when, as play progressed after the second one, Bella Silva scored off an assist from Aoife Daly. The Chargers threatened to extend their lead before the end of the period, but the Pride defense kept the ball out of the net, including defensive saves by Olivia Bell (Mechanic Falls, Maine) and Sarah Tetrault (North Easton, Mass.).

With less than five minutes remaining in the second period, Courtney Larson corralled the rebound off a shot by Daly and scored to increase the Charger lead to 2-0. Larson would strike again just over two minutes later by cleaning up another rebound, this time from a shot by Julia Lanctot, to give Colby-Sawyer a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

After a scoreless third period, the Chargers added to their lead as Daly scored two minutes into the fourth period off an assist from Whitney O'Brien. Caroline Koziol picked up the final goal of the match with four-and-a-half minutes remaining.

Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) finished with 12 saves for the Pride, while Charger keeper Julia Carr was credited with three saves as she earned the shutout victory. Regis ended up with five total shots, including three shots on goal.

Regis College (1-9, 1-7 GNAC) heads to Franklin, Mass., to take on Dean College Wednesday, Oct. 20, beginning at 3 p.m.
