Regis Field Hockey Falls in Close GNAC Contest

NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College created scoring opportunities in the first half, but could not convert on them, and Rivier University scored the only goal of the match early in the second half for a 1-0 victory Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey contest at Joanne Merrill Field.

Midway through the first period, a shot by Isabella Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) was turned away by Rivier goalie Katie Olsen. Later in the period, Olsen stopped scoring attempts by Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) and Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.), keeping the contest a 0-0 tie.

With 19 seconds remaining in the second period, Alley created another scoring opportunity, but Olson once again prevented the ball from going into the net. Just over a minute into the third period, Madison Streeter found Hunter Langley for a goal, giving the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

The Pride drew four penalty corners in the third period, but could not create anything substantial with those opportunities. Rivier was able to prevent Regis from getting anything going in the final period to hold on for the victory.

Regis College (1-6, 1-4 GNAC) heads to Daly Field in Brighton, Mass., for a GNAC match against Simmons University Saturday, Oct. 9, starting at 11 a.m.
