Field Hockey Falls to Defending GNAC Champion Monks

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, the preseason favorite to win the league, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference collegiate field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

Saint Joseph's College first scored two-and-a-half minutes into the match as Abbie Jacques scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Cailin Seavey. Later in the first period, the Monks would add to their lead as Molly McCluskey set up Emma Rutledge for her sixth goal of the year, and then Rutledge would assist on Megan Quirion's third tally of the season to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage.

Cailyn Wesley would pick up her first two goals of the 2021 campaign, one in the second period and one with 50 seconds remaining in the third period. In the fourth period, Wesley would assist on a goal by Alexis Beardsley to complete the scoring for the Monks.

Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) made 15 saves in net for the Pride, while four different goalies played one period apiece in net for the Monks. Aimee Adams led Saint Joseph's College with nine total shots, followed by Jacques with seven total shots, including a team-high five shots on goal.

Regis College (0-4, 0-3 GNAC) hosts Western New England Wednesday, Sept. 29, starting at 7 p.m. and Anna Maria next Saturday, Oct. 2, beginning at 12 p.m. Saint Joseph's College (6-1, 2-0 GNAC) travels to face Colby Wednesday at 7 p.m. before hosting Lasell next Saturday at 11 a.m.
