Field Hockey Drops GNAC Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Elms College, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

The first period remained scoreless until just 1:24 remained on the clock when, after a penalty corner, Carissa Ramirez of Elms corralled her own rebound and fed Ellie Serra for the first goal of the contest. Regis quickly responded with its own scoring chance, but a shot by Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) was turned away by Blazer goalie Nora Newman.

The Blazers continued to pressure the Pride defense early in the second period, resulting in a goal by Ramirez off an assist from Snejana Lashtur just over two minutes into the period. Ramirez picked up another goal almost two-and-a-half minutes later to increase the Elms advantage to 3-0.

With 4:26 remaining before halftime, a shot by Jena Johnson (North Attleboro, Mass.) was blocked, but Regis was granted a penalty stroke opportunity. Sarah Tetrault (North Easton, Mass.) converted for her first career collegiate goal, cutting the Elms lead to 3-1 heading into halftime.

Elms (2-3, 2-1 GNAC) pulled away in the second half thanks to a third period goal by Katie Jones as well as fourth period tallies from Victoria Accorsi and Ramirez, completing her hat trick. Ramirez led all players with nine total shots, while Jones finished with seven shots for the Blazers.

Newman earned the victory for Elms, collecting five saves in the match. For Regis, Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) made 12 saves, while Alley led the Pride offense with seven total shots, including four shots on goal.

Regis College (0-3, 0-2 GNAC) next hosts Saint Joseph's College in one week, as the Pride and Monks face off Saturday, Sept. 25, starting at 11 a.m. Elms begins a busy week by hosting University of Saint Joseph Monday, Sept. 20, beginning at 4 p.m.
