Pride Use First Quarter Goals to Down Chargers

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team scored two goals in the first quarter and added a third in the second half to knock off the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match Saturday.

Jamie Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) earned four points off a pair of goals, while Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) tied the program record for goals in a single season with her 13th, initially set by Aineen Callahan during the 2016 campaign.

The match started in the Pride's favor, with Regis earning a penalty corner in the fourth minute of the match. The Pride were able to break through 5:31 into the match. Nora Buck (Shawmut, Maine) found Blaha on a pass across the net, which Blaha then fired past the Charger goalkeeper.

The Pride scored a second time 5:39 later when Blaha passed from the right side of the net to Juskiewicz, who directed the ball into the net, giving the Pride a 2-0 first quarter lead.

The Chargers took control of possession in the second quarter, earning five penalty corners while putting three shots on net.

Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) was able to stop two of the shots on net in the second quarter. The Chargers' Sarah Morin was unable to score even as the ball passed Winkin, as Sarah Tetrault (North Easton, Mass.) was able to get her stick down to make the defensive save, keeping the shutout alive for the Pride.

In the third quarter, Juskiewicz scored a second time in the match when she collected a rebound off an attempt that hit the post and shoot it into the back of the net.

The Pride controlled most of the game, putting 14 shots on goal to the Chargers' three. Colby-Sawyer held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners at the end of the contest.

Before the match, seniors Sidney Lowe (Lancaster, Mass.), Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.), and Mary Costantino (Abington, Mass.) were honored in a pregame ceremony honoring their athletic and academic achievements as Pride student-athletes.

Colby-Sawyer (6-7, 3-2 GNAC) will play a non-league contest on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Maine Farmington. The Chargers then return to GNAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 23 against Simmons.

Regis (4-10, 1-4 GNAC) take on Rivier Thursday, Oct. 24 at Regis Stadium. The Pride will then host Albertus Magnus Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning at noon before rounding out their regular-season schedule with a visit to Johnson & Wales Wednesday, Oct. 30
