Pride Drop Saturday Contest

WESTON, Mass. – The Valiants of Manhattanville College bested the Regis College Pride Saturday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at Regis Stadium, 4-1.

Manhattanville had four different goal scorers with Lexi Crites, Ava Panzer, Ameerah Thomas, and Raquel Brown all sneaking one past the Pride goalkeeper. Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Pride with Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) recording an assist.

After 2:10, the Valiants struck, with Lexi Crites receiving a pass from Robin Boot that Crites then fired into the back of the net. Manhattanville had another chance just over a minute later that Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) turned away.

Manhattanville scored their second goal with 17 seconds remaining in the first quarter off the stick of Brown, her second goal of the season.

In the 28th minute of the match, Regis shrunk the lead down to one when Chipman connected on a pass to Blaha, who then scored her sixth goal of the season.  The Pride trailed the Valiants at the half, 2-1.

With 1:22 remaining in the third quarter, Panzer scored her third goal of the season off a set piece. Felicity Williams then fed the ball to Thomas with four seconds left in the quarter for the Valiants' fourth goal of the match.

Winkin made seven saves while facing 11 shots for the Pride, while Elaina Nacinovich saved six of the seven Pride shots on net. Manhattanville had more opportunities off set pieces with 14 penalty corners to the Pride's seven.

Manhattanville (6-3, 0-0 NECC) will play Ramapo on Wednesday, Oct. 2 before starting their conference slate against Elms on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Regis (2-5, 0-1 GNAC) is off until Regis Fest on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Simmons.  They then play Dean on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
