Sheridan Blaha Receives GNAC Player, Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, freshman forward Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, and this time she has also received GNAC Field Hockey Player of the Week honors, announced Monday by the league office.

Last Wednesday, Blaha led Regis to its first win of the season, 7-0 over Framingham State, with four goals. The first three goals came in a span of 5:16 in the second quarter to help the Pride increase their lead to 4-0 at halftime. Her fourth goal of the match was scored 6:47 into the third quarter as she finished with eight total shots, including six shots on goal.

Saturday, Blaha created a scoring opportunity just over five minutes into the conference match against Saint Joseph's College as the Pride remained tied with the Monks through the entire first half. Blaha earned two more shots in the fourth quarter as she attempted to help Regis rally from a deficit.

For the season, Blaha is currently second in the GNAC in both goals with five and in points with 10, plus she is third in the league with 17 total shots.

Regis (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) enters a busy week with three non-conference matches in five days, starting Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Salem State beginning at 4 p.m. After traveling to face New England College Thursday, Sept. 19, for a 7 p.m. start, the Pride return home to take on Manhattanville Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m.
