Regis Field Hockey Earns Non-Conference Victory

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team took control of Thursday night's match right from the start, establishing an early lead and then keeping possession for most of the match for a 6-0 victory over Dean College in a non-conference match at Regis Stadium.

After gaining the ball early in the first half, the Pride created several scoring chances, but Dean goalie Amari Dias was able to turn away the first three Regis shots on goal. In the third minute, Dias saved a shot by Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.), but Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) was able to collect the rebound and find the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season.

Five minutes into the match, Cattaruzza was able to convert on her scoring chance for her third goal of the year. In the span of less than two minutes, Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) twice gathered a rebound and scored, first off a shot by Joslyn O'Brien (Petersham, Mass.) and then off her own previous shot on goal.

One minute after Chipman's second goal, Jillian Schneyer (Worcester, Mass.) was able to score her third goal of the season to increase the Regis lead to 5-0 just 9:15 into the contest. Several players came into the match for the Pride and focused more on ball control than offensive pressure, but Regis did score once more before the end of the half as Schneyer's attempt towards net was redirected into the goal by Jamie Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine).

For the Pride, the focus remained on ball control in the second half, as they took just one shot in the second half after taking 18 shots in the first half. During a penalty corner in the 58th minute, Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) sent a shot towards net, but Dias was able to kick it away for her seventh and final save of the night.

Dean (1-10) did draw a penalty corner in the second half, but it did not lead to a shot, as the Bulldogs were unable to create any serious scoring opportunities. Erin Moore (Rosedale, Md.) played the entire match in net for the Pride and picked up her second victory of the season without making a save.

Regis (3-10) will face Lasell Saturday, Oct. 20, starting at 4 p.m. in the regular season conference finale for the Pride. Before the match, Regis's seven seniors will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies.
