Field Hockey Drops Match to Anna Maria

WESTON, Mass.Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) made three saves for the Pride in a loss Saturday afternoon to Anna Maria in wet and cold conditions at Regis Stadium, 1-0.

The Pride came out strong early in the first half, drawing four penalty corners in the first six minutes of play.  Regis would register a total of eight penalty corners in the match, six of them in the first half. Anna Maria would be awarded only one penalty corner in each half.

The Pride would struggle to put the ball past Wildcat goalkeeper Cassandra Micklesavage, who would record six saves on the day. Anna Maria would score early in the second half when Lauren Lapierre would find the back of the goal off a cross from Chayna Bingham-Hendricks. 

The Pride would have an opportunity to tie the match late in the second half when a fast break sparked by Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) led to a pair of shots coming off the sticks of Callahan and Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.), but neither shot was successful.

The Pride will now travel to Simmons for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. before coming home to face Dean College Thursday, Oct. 18.
