WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College Pride were unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in the second half, as conference foe Johnson & Wales prevailed, 4-3, Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey match at Regis Stadium.
The first goal on the scoreboard came from Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.), who first fired a shot that the Wildcat goalkeeper saved. Chipman would then collect the rebound and score, giving the Pride the 1-0 lead.
Johnson & Wales (2-6, 1-2 GNAC) would then score in the 29th minute to tie the game at 1-1, where it would remain at halftime.
In the second half, the Wildcats were able to strike first as Jillian Miele found the back of the net to give Johnson & Wales a 2-1 lead.
That advantage did not last long, as Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) struck back just over two minutes later to knot things up at 2-2.
After goals by Natalie Rivas and Megan Kramer put the Wildcats up, 4-2, Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) would score with the help of Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.), tallying the last goal of the game for either team.
Erin Moore (Rosedale, Md.) started the match in net for the Pride and made three saves in the first half before Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) took over in the second half and made four saves. Claire Nolan played the entire game as the Wildcat goalie, earning seven saves as she picked up her first victory of the season.
Regis (2-6, 1-2 GNAC) will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 6, when it hits the road to take on Colby-Sawyer. They will return home Saturday, Oct. 13, to face Anna Maria.
