WESTON, Mass. - Senior Kayla Donahue (Natick, Mass.) scored the game's lone goal with 11:39 remaining on the clock as the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team suffered a 1-0 defeat to New England College in non-conference action at Regis Stadium on Wednesday night.

With a victory, the Pride would have set a new program record with a six-game win streak, but instead the loss drops the team's record to 7-5. The Pilgrims improve to 5-9 with the road victory.

The teams played a quiet first half that saw the game go to the half without a score. The Pilgrims held a 5-4 edge in shots and 5-2 edge in penalty corners in the opening 35, but neither team found the net in the frame.

Donahue's goal in the 59th minute broke the ice after the defensive struggle. From the midfield, senior Abigail Arsenault (High Pine Plains, N.Y.) played a ball into the circle. Donahue spun off a Pride defender, one-timing the ball past the extended leg pad of the Pride's Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

The Pride had a handful of chances to equalize in the remaining 11 minutes of the game, but goalkeeper Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) and the Pilgrim defense came up huge. Regis got its fifth man advantage of the game with 4:41 remaining when Ali Ouellette (Saco, Maine) was shown a green card, but the Pride couldn't muster a shot with the opportunity.

Just after Ouellette returned to the field, Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) had the Pride's best chance to tie the game. The junior got away on a breakaway, but Clark came up with saves both on Callahan's initial attempt and on a rebound. Off a scramble seconds later, Callahan took one more shot from the right side of the circle, but the ball banged off the post and out of play. The shot off the post would be the Pride's final shot of the evening, ending the Pride's bid at a historic win streak.

Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week Malcolm was charged with the loss, despite making seven saves between the pipes. The shutout win went to Clark, who turned away four shots off Regis sticks.

Next up for the Pride, they'll play their final regular season road game at Lasell on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in GNAC action. The Pilgrims will play another non-conference game when they next take the field, traveling to Waterville, Maine to play Thomas College on Saturday.
