Field Hockey Falls In Overtime Shootout At Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) field hockey team kicked off its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference season on the road but it came in a 2-1 overtime shootout loss to Anna Maria, Saturday at AMCAT Field. Regis falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC with AMC improving to 2-1 and 1-0 in league play.

The AMCATS got on the board with a goal in just the seventh minute of play. Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) fielded a pass from Sarah Coley (Worcester, Mass.) and scored past Pride goalie Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) to give Anna Maria the early lead.

Both teams would keep the scoresheet clean the rest of the half but Regis netted the equalizer early in the second half. Less than three minutes into the period, Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) with an assist from Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) beat AMCAT goalie Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.)  to level the scoreline at 1-1.

A stalemate ensued for the rest of regulation and throughout overtime as the two teams headed toward a penalty shootout. It would be the AMCATS who would come out on top though, winning the shootout to capture the victory.

Malcolm had a solid performance in goal for the Pride, posting 11 saves and giving up just the one goal in a full 100 minutes of action. Tobin posted seven saves for Anna Maria.

The Pride retakes the field this Wednesday, Sept. 13, hosting former NECC foe Bay Path at 4:00 p.m. The AMCATS next visit Wheaton Tuesday, Sept. 12. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
