Field Hockey Picked Third in NECC Poll

NECC Release

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - In an immensely tight race for the top of the NECC Preseason Poll, the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team was picked to finish third in the conference as voted by the six league coaches. Defending champion Wheelock received 31 votes, Becker, 30 and the Pride tallied 29.

Regis, a season removed from an upset to Wheelock in the NECC Tournament final, has high hopes to reclaim the league title it held in 2014. That year the Pride made its first NCAA Tournament appearance and now eye another trip to the dance.

The Pride, who also received one first-place vote, have an experience edge as they are returning nine of their starters including sophomore standout Aineen Callahan who earned All-NECC First Team Honors. She will be aided this season by fellow all-conference selections senior Kelsey Morton and sophomore Yvonne Abate.

Rounding out the preseason poll were Elms (18), Bay Path (12) and Daniel Webster (6).

Regis opens the season on Friday, Sept. 2 hosting Wheaton College. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
