Field Hockey Downed by Mount Ida

WESTON, Mass. - Mount Ida freshman Taylor Lincoln (Rye, N.H.) scored two goals in under a minute midway through the second half as the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team fell to the Mustangs by a score of 3-1.

With the victory, Mount Ida improves to 9-5 on the season, while the Pride falls to 6-6.

The Mustangs got on the board first in the tenth minute on a goal by sophomore Patty Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine). Her classmate, midfielder Sarah Hemstock (Northford, Conn.), found Ryan all alone at the far side post and gave her a perfect feed, allowing Ryan to tap the ball into the open net.

Still trailing 1-0 to open the second half, Pride rookie Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) buried her third goal of the season just under five minutes into the half to even the score. Senior Kelsey Morton (South Portland, Maine) was credited with the assist on Chipman's tally.

Lincoln's first tally came just under 11 minutes later when she chipped the ball in off of a scramble in front of the net. Pride goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) made an initial save, but Lincoln was standing at the left post and pounced on the rebound to put her team in front. Just 50 seconds later, in the 53rd minute, Lincoln buried another from the same left post to put the game out of reach for the Pride.

Malcolm was credited with the loss despite making nine saves in goal. Getting the win for Mount Ida was freshman Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine), making six saves.

The Pride returns to action Saturday morning when they travel to Becker College to take on the Hawks in NECC action. The Mustangs next take the field on the road the same day against Saint Joseph's (Maine).
