Callahan Sets Single-Season Goal Mark in Win Over Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore midfielder Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) scored her first hat trick of the season Saturday afternoon as the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team picked up a key 3-0 win over Wheelock College. Callahan's second goal, her 11th of the season, made her the program's all-time single-season goal scoring leader, surpassing the mark set by Caitlin Connolly in 2004, who finished the season with 10 goals.

With the win, the Pride improves to 6-4 on the season (4-0 NECC), while Wheelock falls to 2-8 (1-3 NECC).

The game appeared to be going to the half without a score, but Callahan netted her first goal of the game to give the Pride a 1-0 lead with 40 seconds left in the first half. The tally, assisted by senior Jenna Casello (Westborough, Mass.) tied Connolly's all-time mark.

The record-setting goal came just minutes after the tying goal, as Callahan scored just 1:26 into the second half. The sophomore still wasn't done however, as she netted her third goal 2:25 later. Senior co-captain Kelsey Morton (South Portland, Maine) was credited with the assist on the goal.

Junior goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) made 10 saves in the win to pick up her third shutout of the season. In the loss, Wheelock goalie Jenna O'Leary (Freetown, Mass.) made four saves.

Next up for the Pride, they will host Elms on Tuesday night, looking to stay perfect in NECC play. The Wildcats host Bay Path the same night in their second game of a three-game home stand.
