Pride Downs Becker in NECC Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) field hockey team opened its final season of conference play in the New England Collegiate Conference with a victory Saturday afternoon, as the Pride topped the Hawks of Becker College by a final score of 1-0.

With the victory, the Pride improves to 2-4 (1-0 NECC) on the season, while Becker drops to 0-9 (0-1 NECC).

Regis midfielder Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) tallied the game's lone score in the sixth minute when she netted her fourth goal of the season. The sophomore deposited her own rebound past Becker goalkeeper Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine) to make the score 1-0 5:25 in.

Both goaltenders shined on the afternoon, each turning away a handful of top-notch scoring chances. The Pride's Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) came up with three saves to pick up her first shutout of the season. For the second game in a row, Jefferies tallied seven saves.

Next up for the Pride, they'll host Anna Maria Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. Becker returns to action Thursday afternoon when they take on Clark University at home at 4:00 p.m.
