Field Hockey Notches First Win With Penalty Stroke Victory at NEC

Henniker, N.H. – The Regis (Mass.) Pride field hockey team got in the win column today, battling New England College through two overtime periods and to a shootout win 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Pride improve to 1-3 on the season, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 3-4 overall.

The Pilgrims would open the scoring 13 minutes into the game as Aislinn deHorsey would come through with her team-high twelfth goal of the season assisted by Kayla Donahue. The Pride would knot the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute of play as Aineen Callahan would put in a loose ball in front of the net. Regis then went up 2-1 in the 30th minute as Emily McDonald would rebound in her own shot.

NEC tallied the lone goal of the second half as Taylor Daileanes registered her fifth goal of the season coming from a scrum in front of the net.

The two teams would battle through a scoreless first and second overtime. In penalty strokes the teams remained tied through the opening five attempts for each team but on the sixth Yvonne Abate beat NEC keeper Michaela Clark eventually giving the Pride the 3-2 shootout victory.

NEC's Michaela Clark finished the afternoon with 11 saves. Picking up the win in net for Regis was Maresa Malcolm who stopped seven Pilgrim shots.

WHAT'S NEXT

New England College will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Anna Maria College.

Regis hits the field again on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Framingham State.​
