Field Hockey Blanked by Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Regis (Mass.) field hockey team was given more than it could handle on Wednesday afternoon, as they were defeated by the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College 3-0.

Colby-Sawyer outshot the Pride 19-1 and held a 10-1 edge in penalty corners.

The scoring came from three separate Chargers. Sophomore Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) put the home team in front 1-0 in the eighth minute, which proved to be enough for the win. She was set up by reigning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week freshman Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine).

The Chargers got one more goal before the half off the stick of senior Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.). Junior Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) was credited with the assist.

Early in the second half, Colby-Sawyer added an insurance goal. Jones found the back of the cage off an assist from freshman Hadley Woodfin (Marblehead, Mass.).

Sophomore Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced to earn the shutout victory.

Regis junior goalie Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) kept the Pride close with 11 saves.

Next up for the Pride is the Rivier Raiders, who they will host next Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 p.m. The Chargers five-game home stand continues on Saturday when they take on Bay Path at 1:00 p.m.
