PRIDE FALL SHORT AGAINST COUGARS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team suffered a 3-0 setback to Clark University on Saturday morning in non-conference action in Weston, Mass. The Pride drops to 3-3 on the young season, while the Cougars snapped a four game losing-streak to improve to 3-5.

Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) scored all three goals for Clark in the victory, with Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) adding a pair of assists, and Megan Tighe (Simsbury, Conn.) adding one of her own.

Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) stopped 11 shots in the game, while Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) and Allison Petillo (Sayville, N.Y.) made defensive saves. Jenna Casello (Southborough, Mass.) took a pair of shots for Regis, while Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.), Yvonne Abate (Easton, Mass.) and Kesley Morton (South Portland, Maine) each registered shots for the Pride.

Almost the entire first half went by before either team cracked the scoring column but Barksdale sent the Scarlet and White into halftime with a 1-0 lead when Megan Tighe set her up for her eighth marker of the season at 33:16.

Clark then doubled that advantage early in the second stanza when Lauren Mackey fed Barksdale for another strike in the 49th minute. That combination was at it again less than three minutes later as Mackey connected with Barksdale for the first-year's tenth tally of the season at 51:05.

The Pride's best chance of the afternoon came in the 59th minute as Abate fired a shot from the top of the circle that was kicked away by Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.).

Clark controlled much of the action on the afternoon, outshooting the hosts, 24-5 and holding a 19-1 edge in penalty corners. Dani Michaud earned her first career win by making one save in the game for the Cougars.

The Crimson and Gold will try and get back on track on Tuesday night when they return to New England Collegiate Conference action and host Wheelock College in a 7:00 p.m. match. Clark hosts Elms College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
