PRIDE ADVANCE TO NECC TITLE GAME

LEICESTER, Mass. – Fourth seeded Regis College defeated top seeded Becker College 2-1 in New England Collegiate Conference postseason field hockey action Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Pride to 5-13 on the season, while the Hawks season comes to an end with a record of 5-14.

Becker got on the board 6:26 into the first half when Katherine Landanno (Winchendon, Mass.) broke free between two Regis defenders, slipping a shot past the right leg pad of Pride keeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.).

The Pride had plenty of opportunities to score in the first half as they put seven shots on Becker goalie Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.).

The Hawks nearly took a 2-0 advantage 2:35 into the second half when Brittney Bebeau (Harrisville, R.I.) blasted a shot from five yards out, but Raegan Heck made a tremendous kick save to preserve to 1-0 deficit.

The Pride tied the game 41:25 into the game when Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) fed Jenna Casello (Westborough, Mass.) at the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Casello ripped a shot into the right corner of the Hawks net.

Regis tallied the game winner with 23:18 remaining in regulation when Laurie DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) gathered her own rebound, tipping it past Gallo for her fifth goal of the season.

The Hawks had a chance to tie the game with 11:25 left on the clock when Brittany Cormier (Danbury, Conn.) rattled a shot of the right post.

Raegan Heck finished the game with one save in net, while Gabrielle Gallo turned away 10 shots.

The Pride advance to their second consecutive NECC Championship game on Saturday, November 8, which will be played at winner of the Wheelock College and Elms College game. The Pride have now appeared in three of the last four NECC Championship matches, winning the NECC title back in 2011.
