SHARKS SLIP PAST PRIDE 1-0

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College goalkeeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) recorded 19 saves, but Simmons College defeated the Pride, 1-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action in Weston, Mass. The Sharks move to 2-3 on the year, while the Pride drop to 1-3 on the young season.

Simmons had an opportunity to jump out to an early lead with a penalty corner opportunity during the 10th minute of play. Junior midfielder Amy Cronin (Georgetown, Mass.) took the corner chance and fed a nice pass to freshman midfielder Marra Wagner (Chester County, Pa.) who ripped a shot on goal that was blocked by a fine defensive play Pride midfielder Jenna Casello (Westborough, Mass.). Casello then cleared the ball out of the zone which thwarted a possible Shark scoring chance.

Four minutes later, during the 14th minute of play, Regis had their only penalty corner of the game. Senior Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) took the opportunity and passed it off to a teammate. Regis then passed the ball around, trying to find the best possible shot, but a Simmons defender got their stick on the ball and cleared the Pride threat out of the Shark zone.

The Sharks got on the board in the 29th minute after setting up shop in the Pride's end. After a few shots on goal by Simmons and a couple of fantastic saves by Pride goalie Raegan Heck, Amy Cronin had an opportunity and she ripped a shot that was saved by Heck, then ricocheted off her knee pads and right onto Kelly Williamson's (Natick, Mass.) stick. With the flick of the wrist Williamson put the ball off the rebound into the back of the cage and gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.

Simmons had an opportunity to add to their lead when Cronin was awarded a penalty stroke, but she was stifled by Heck who made another great save. The Pride found themselves down in the Sharks end during the last few minutes of play but could make nothing of it as Jenna Casello's shot was blocked by sophomore Robin Powell (Richmond, Vt.) which ended the Pride's threat.

Regis was outshot 29-1 during the game and Simmons was also awarded 13 penalty corners as well, while Regis was only awarded one. Sashae Walls made two defensive saves for the Pride while Sam Anderson (Sandwich, Mass.) added one of her own. Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) moved to 2-3 on the season for the Sharks and Robin Powell (Richmond, Vt.) made one defensive save as well.

Regis looks to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Lasell College to face the Lasers. Game time is scheduled for noon.
