DEMARS BURIES TWO IN PRIDE WIN OVER RAIDERS

WESTON, Mass. – Freshman Laurie DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Regis field hockey team in a 4-1 victory over Rivier University on Tuesday evening at Regis Stadium. The win marks the third in a row for the Pride, who improve to 3-10 overall, while the Raiders fall to 2-15 on the year.

DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) got things started early for the Pride, scoring in the fourth minute of play off an assist from Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.). Walls drew goalkeeper Danielle Moran (San Diego, Calif.) out of the net and dished the ball to an open DeMars, who slammed the ball home for the early 1-0 lead.

The Pride added to their lead at the 25:23 mark by scoring in similar fashion to the first goal of the game when Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) was able to capitalize off of a pass from Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.). The sophomore found herself alone in front of the net and was able to beat Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) on the left side to put Regis ahead 2-0.

Rivier would not back down, as they outshot the Pride by an 11-5 margin in the first half. The Raiders finally answered in the 31st minute after Presleigh Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H.) made a great pass from the top of the circle that found Kate Adinolfo (Manchester, N.H.) just outside the Regis net. Adinolfo took a touch with the ball before taking a shot that beat Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) to cut the lead in half just before the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Raiders continued to pour on the pressure. The visitors peppered Heck with 14 total shots in the second half, but the rookie did not budge. Heck finished the game with 15 saves.

The Pride added to the lead in the 51st minute when DeMars scored her second goal of the game. After an initial shot from O'Toole was saved by Flagg, DeMars crashed the net and collected the rebound for the two goal lead. O'Toole recorded a goal of her own a little over six minutes later. She received a beautiful pass on the goal line from Devan Wirtanen (Westminster, Mass.) and shot it in the net to finish the scoring for the night.

Moran and Flagg split time in goal for the Raiders, finishing with three saves and two saves, respectively.

Rivier will play their next game at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday at NAC conference opponent Thomas. The Pride will be back in action at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, as the team travels to Anna Maria for an NECC showdown with the Amcats.
