PRIDE SHUT OUT WILDCATS, 4-0

LONGMEADOW, MASS. - Freshman Devan Wirtanen (Westminster, Mass.) recorded two goals, and sophomore Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) registered two assists to lift Regis to a 4-0 victory over Bay Path College in a New England Collegiate Conference field hockey match Friday afternoon at Ryan Field. The Crimson & Gold have now won two games in a row and improve to 2-10 overall (2-1 NECC), while Bay Path drops to 0-9 overall (0-3 NECC).

The Pride opened the scoring just two minutes and 45 seconds into the contest as junior Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) knocked in her third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Becka Sarson (York, Maine) to put Regis ahead 1-0. Wirtanen extended the Regis lead to 2-0 at the 14:38 mark, with assists coming from sophomores Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Shelby Looney (Leicester, Mass.).

Wirtanen followed with her second marker of the match following a feed from Genga, which extended the Pride's lead to 3-0 at 19:36 of the first half.

Genga tallied her second assist of the day on the only goal of the second half, as she fed Walls, who found the back of the cage just 48 seconds into the final period to close out the scoring at 4-0.

Freshman Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) logged five saves for the Pride to secure the shutout victory, while freshman goalkeeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) recorded a game-high seven saves for Bay Path.

The Pride will look to continue their winning ways as they host Rivier in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, Oct.17 at NECC rival Anna Maria at 4:00 p.m.
