FALCONS BLANK PRIDE, 4-0

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Regis College dropped a 4-0 decision to Fitchburg State College in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at Elliot Field. The Pride fall to 0-6 on the year, while the Falcons improve to 4-2 overall in 2012.

After one period of play, Fitchburg State held a 1-0 advantage as freshman Erin Morrissey (Hubbardston, Mass.) connected for her first collegiate score. Morrissey took a feed from Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, Mass.) and slipped the ball inside the near post for the Falcons one goal lead.

In the second stanza, the Falcons upped their lead (2-0) at the 35:58 mark as Kelley fired a shot from the left of the circle and connected for her team leading sixth tally of the season. The Green and Gold made it 3-0 on a Mary-Anne Goodsell (West Springfield, Mass.) tally in the 57th minute before sophomore Amber Nunes (West Wareham, Mass.) capped the Fitchburg State scoring with her first score of the season just seven minutes later.

Throughout the match, Fitchburg State controlled the offensive half of the field, out-shooting Regis 32-9, while holding a 10-7 margin in penalty corners. Between the pipes, sophomore Lucy Holewa (Londonderry, N.H.) registered four saves in 66 minutes of work for the Falcons, while junior Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) made 11 second half stops for the Pride.

The Pride's nine shots were spread out amongst three players as Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.), Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Devan Wirtanen (Westminster, Mass.) took three shots apiece for the visitors.

Regis returns to action next Tuesday when they travel to Gordon College for a non-league matchup at 7:00 p.m.
