OWLS SHUTOUT PRIDE 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University struck for three second-half goals to defeat Regis 3-0 in a non-conference field hockey game on Thursday evening. The Pride's record drops to 0-5, while the Owls improve to 2-1 on the season.

Regis was led by junior goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.), who held the host squad scoreless in the opening half of play.

Westfield's first goal came nearly seven minutes into the second half off a penalty corner. The goal was scored by senior Lauren Tavares (Tiverton, R.I.), with assists credited to junior Courtney Araujo (Somerset, Mass.) and senior Liz Hall (Southwick, Mass.).

The Owls scored in the 51-st minute on a penalty stroke by freshman forward Emily Williams (Deerfield, Mass.) for a 2-0 lead. Hall finished the scoring with 11:33 remaining in the game off of an assist from Becca Davis (Rochester, MA).

Regis was not credited with a shot attempt in the contest. Mitchell finished the game with eight saves.

The Pride return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18 when the team visits Fitchburg State for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
