LASERS STUN PRIDE 4-3 SETBACK

NEWTON, Mass. – Regis College finally put together some offense, but it was too little too late as the Pride fell to Lasell College, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field. The win moves Lasell to 1-2 on the year, while Regis drops to 0-3.

Sophomore Nikita Soares (Westport, Mass.) got Lasell on the board first, scoring on an assist from Samantha Smithers (Cape Cod, Mass.) 11:40 into the game. Senior Kate Fabri (Fairfield, Conn.) then scored a pair of goals, the first on an assist from Haley Ackerson (Concord, N.H.) and the second one unassisted, to give Lasell a 3-0 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Regis freshmen Devan Wirtanen (Westminster, Mass.) responded with the Pride's first goal of the game with just under two minutes left in the half, sending the Lasers into the break with a 3-1 lead.

The second half was a back-and-forth game, that went scoreless until the final four minutes of action despite the fast pace. Regis drew within a goal of the hosts at 3-2 when Becka Sarson (York, Maine) scored on a Wirtanen feed, but Lasell's Soares tallied her second goal of the contest less than a minute later to put Lasell up 4-2.

The Pride closed the game out with a goal from Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) following a penalty corner with no time on the clock, resulting in the final score of 4-3.

Regis will be back in action on September 11th when they host Simmons College at 4:30 p.m., while the Lasers head to St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at 12:00 p.m.
