WARRIORS EDGE PRIDE IN FINAL MINUTES, 2-1

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State senior Chelsie Rizzo scored with only nine minutes remaining in the game to snap a 1-1 tie and propel the Warriors to a 2-1 victory over visiting Regis College in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday afternoon. The Pride has its season-high five game winning-streak snapped while dropping to 6-10 overall.

Trailing 1-0, Eastern tied the match with eight minutes left in the first half on Erika Malito's fourth goal of the season in a scramble in front of the net, and won it on Rizzo's fifth goal of the season. Ali Chapman set up the winning goal with the hit-in on Eastern's 11th penalty corner of the match. Chapman sent the pass in to Hannah Collier, who drove a hard shot at the cage from the top of the cirle. Defender Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) knocked the shot off the goal line, but Rizzo was there to send it into the cage.

Regis needed only 72 seconds to take a 1-0 lead when Meghan Robohm (Easton, Mass.) carried untouched into the circle and fired a waist-high shot past Eastern goalie Danielle Reichardt. The Pride were outshot 8-2 the rest of the half, however, with the Warriors accumulating six of the seven penalty corners that were awarded over the first 35 minutes.

Making her sixth start of the year, Regis goalie Genesiz Gudiel (Lawrence, Mass.) made six saves in the first half, holding the Warriors off the board until Malito's equalizer late in the period.

Pappas made two defensive saves for Regis, clearing out a shot by Chapman with 12 minutes left following an Eastern penalty corner with the game tied at 1-1. Five minutes earlier, Eastern back Lauren DeLuca had kept the match tied when she stopped a shot on the back line by Regis' Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.). Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass.) was there for the rebound of Genga's shot, but Reichardt followed with her only save of the half.

Regis wraps up its 2011 regular season campaign when the Pride travels to Daniel Webster College for an NECC matchup with the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. Eastern closes out its season Saturday at Bridgewater State University at 1:00 p.m. in a Little East Conference match.
