PRIDE WASH OUT BLAZERS 1-0

WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College women's field hockey team defeated Elms College on a rain soaked turf field Wednesday night at the Regis College Athletic Complex by the score of 1-0. The Pride moves to 5-9 overall on the season and improves to 3-1 in the NECC. The visiting Blazers move to 1-11 overall on the season and 0-3 in the NECC.

The first period consisted of a barrage of shots by the Pride who outshot the Blazers 10-2. Blazers goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita  (Agawam, Mass.) finished the first half with four saves. The Pride continued to control the ball to end out the first period with the score being 0-0 at the half.
The second period opened with the Pride's offense converging on the Blazers defensive end. The Blazers held strong under the play of Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) who came up with a defensive save. The Pride would continue to pester Bonavita with shots throughout the second period.
This offensive intensity paid off halfway through the second period when Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) was able to convert on a broken play in front of the Blazers net to put the Pride up 1-0. The Pride defense would continue to play well with Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) making a defensive save late in the game. This momentum helped the Pride wear down the clock and end the second period with the final score being 1-0.
The Crimson and Gold return to action Saturday when they host NECC opponent Anna Maria College at 10:30 a.m. The Blazers next matchup is Saturday, when they host the Hawks from Becker College at 12:00 p.m.
