REGIS WINS SECOND STRAIGHT WITH 3-0 VICTORY

WESTON, Mass.Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass.) each had a goal and an assist while Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) scored on a penalty stroke as Regis College defeated Lasell College, 3-0, on Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action in Weston, Mass. The Pride improves to 3-9 overall this year while the Lasers drop to 2-11.

Walls got the scoring started for the Pride as the freshman took a crossing pass in front of the goal from Christine O'Toole and buried the ball into the back of the cage for the early 1-0 lead 8:15 into the game. That would be all the offense in the opening frame however, as Lasell's Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) made five saves in the half while Regis' Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) turned away the one attempt made her way.

Regis outshot the Lasers, 8-5, in the first half and also held a 6-5 lead in penalty corners.

Lasell came out early in the second half trying to find the equalizer. Following a penalty corner, the Lasers rifled off four straight shots. Samantha Cote (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had her attempt thwarted by Morgan but Hannah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) was there for the rebound. Cebry put a shot on net that Regis' Chelsea Morrison (Windham, N.H.) was able to deflect away for a defensive save that preserved the Pride's 1-0 advantage.

Morgan made two more saves on Cebry before Stacy Burns added an insurance goal with a penalty stroke with 18 minutes remaining in the game. The teams would trade penalty corners throughout the rest of the half before Walls returned the favor to O'Toole and set up the sophomore on the goal line for her fourth tally of the season in the final minute of play for the 3-0 win.

The Pride had a 16-13 lead in shots for the game and also doubled up the Lasers in penalty corners, 16-8. Morgan Mitchell made six saves to pick up her second win of the season while her counterpart Christine Thornton had seven saves in the setback. The Lasell attack was led by eight shots from Cebry while Samantha Cote added three of her own.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Friday night when the Pride travels to Leicester, Mass. for an NECC matchup with Becker College at 7:00 p.m. Lasell tries to bounce back on Thursday afternoon when they host Anna Maria College in a non-conference bout at 3:30 p.m.
