WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team picked up its first New England Collegiate Conference win on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over visiting Bay Path College. The Pride improves to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the NECC while the Wildcats drop to 2-7 and 0-2 in the league. Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass.) and Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) paced the Pride with a goal and an assist each.

Regis got on the board first as Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) was able to give the Pride a 1-0 lead as she buried a penalty stroke just under two minutes into the game. Cheyenne Genga netted the second goal of the game as the freshman took a pass from Christine O'Toole and blasted the ball to the top left corner of the goal. O'Toole entered the scoring column herself just over 10 minutes later as she corralled a Meghan Robohm (Easton, Mass.) missed shot and scored to give the Pride a 3-0 lead headed into the half.

The Pride outshot Bay Path 16-6 and attempted 10 penalty corners to two for the Wildcats. Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) made four saves for Bay Path while Elizabeth Barclay (Auburn, Maine) had a defensive save in the opening period. The Pride's Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) turned away all four shots she faced to keep Bay Path off the scoreboard.

A little over 13 minutes into the second frame, Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) scored her fifth goal of the season off a rebound on a Cheyenne Genga attempt. That would be all the scoring in the period as neither team could muster much of an offensive attack. Bay Path's Stephanie Belsen (Windsor Locks, Conn.) had the Wildcats' best opportunity with less than 15 minutes to play, but Mitchell made a sprawling save and then deflected Belsen's second attempt wide of its mark to preserve the shutout.

Regis held a 24-12 edge in shots in the game and also attempted more penalty corners (18-4) than Bay Path. Morgan Mitchell made eight saves in the game to pick up her first win of the season. Samantha Berrios suffered the setback while also making eight stops. Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) led the Bay Path attack, taking six shots.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Tuesday night when the Pride host Lasell College in a non-conference match at 6:00 p.m. Bay Path will host Daniel Webster in an NECC game next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
