GENGA AND BURNS SCORE IN LOSS TO SCOTS 4-2

WESTON, Mass .-The Regis College field hockey team was defeated by Gordon College Thursday evening at the Regis College Athletic Complex by the score of 4-2. The Pride moves to 0-6 overall on the season, while the visiting Scots move to 4-6 on the season.

The Scots got on the board first when Brittany Hawkins (Hampstead, N.H.) was able to convert on a cross box pass from Clara Baker (Underhill, Vt.) to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Scots. The Scots rifled off a second shot early in the in the first quarter when Karli Balmer (Perkasie, Penn.) juked past Pride Goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) to put the Scots up by two.

The Pride would answer back with the strong play of freshman Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) who converted on a loose ball in front of the Scots goal, this tally cut the Scots lead in half to put the Pride down by one.  The Scots would rally back quickly with a shot from Leah LaPalombara (Glen Mills, Penn.) to make the lead 3-1 in favor of the Scots. The Pride would get its final goal of the game late in the first period, when  sophomore Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) scored off a penalty stroke to make the score 3-2 Scots.

The Scots would open up the second period with a goal by Balmer who finished off a deflection by Mitchell to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Scots. This was the final tally of the game as both squads continued to jockey for ball control in the final minutes of play. Mitchell finished the game for the Pride with 14 saves, while Scots goaltender Rebecca Smith (Verona, N.J.) finished the game with two.

The Crimson and Gold return to action this Saturday for homecoming when they take on Wells College at 11:00 a.m. The Scots return to play this Saturday when they travel to Springfield Massachusetts to take on the Golden Bears from Western New England.
