GENGA SCORES FIRST CAREER GOAL IN REGIS SETBACK

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team suffered a 12-1 loss at the hands of Mount Holyoke College on Thursday night in non-conference field hockey action. Mount Holyoke picks up its first win of the season and improves to 1-0 while Regis drops to 0-2. Mount Holyoke's Shara Robertson (KwaZulu Natal, South Africa) and Jess Fajardo (Amherst, Mass.) posted three goals apiece for the Lyons.

Seven players recorded goals for Mount Holyoke, which reached double digits in the scoring column for just the fourth time in program history.

First year forward Christine Ianni (Wilmington, Del.) got the scoring started for the Lyons, tallying her first collegiate goal at the 18:56 mark. She went on to score one more time before the break as the hosts built a 5-0 lead. Fajardo also found the back of the cage twice in the first half.

Mount Holyoke would add seven more goals in the second half with a pair of those coming from Robertson.

The lone Regis goal came from freshman forward Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.), who picked up her first collegiate goal at the 37:17 mark.

Mount Holyoke finished with overwhelming advantages in both shots (26-4) and penalty corner opportunities (13-4). Senior goalkeeper Katie Gibson (Charlotte, N.C.) made three saves for the hosts. At the other end, sophomore Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) turned away eight shots.

Both squads will resume play on the road on Saturday. Mount Holyoke will visit Castleton State College at 1:00 p.m., while Regis will travel to Thomas College for a match beginning at noon.
