
Regis Pride Athletics Collects Four GNAC Weekly Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. - The Regis College athletics department once again collected multiple weekly honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as four student-athletes were selected by the league office for weekly awards as announced Monday, Oct. 28.
For the second time in her career, senior Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) has been selected GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Pride to a 3-0 week. Last Tuesday night, she averaged 4.00 kills and 4.33 digs per set with 12 kills and 13 digs against Emmanuel, plus she posted a .611 hitting percentage, the best of her career in a match with at least 10 attack attempts.
Saturday against Rivier, Tenorio earned a season-high 15 kills along with two service aces and 10 digs, plus she hit .500, her career-best in a match with at least 20 attack attempts, and she did not make a reception error in 17 chances. She ended the week with 12 kills, 11 digs, and three service aces against Saint Joseph's College, helping the Pride take the lead for good in the fifth set with a kill and a service ace.
First-year setter Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) was named GNAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, including the third time within the last four weeks. Last Tuesday night, she averaged 11 assists per set as she finished with 33 assists and two service aces in the Pride's sweep over Emmanuel, helping Regis hit .304 as a team, its second straight match with a hitting percentage over .300.
Saturday against Rivier, Rivera again dished out 33 assists and earned two service aces, plus she collected a season-high 11 digs for her first career collegiate double-double. Rivera followed up with 24 assists and eight digs in Regis' victory over host Saint Joseph's College.
Kali Taylor (Brattleboro, Vt.) was named GNAC Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week after winning three individual events during a double-dual meet at Gordon College Friday evening. She won the 200 freestyle by 6/100ths of a second with a season-best time of 2:07.68.
The 100 freestyle was even closer as Taylor out-touched the second place swimmer by 1/100th of a second with a time of 58.23 seconds. Taylor then held on to win the 500 freestyle by a quarter of a second with a mark of 5:53.46. All three times were season-best marks for Taylor and the team as the Pride defeated conference foe Elms during the meet, 141-87.
Alexis Sherry (Salem, Mass.) earned her first career weekly award as she was named GNAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week after playing her best match of the season to help the Pride defeat New England College Saturday. Tying her season high with three total shots, she scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute for the Pride, and then she assisted on the eventual game-winning tally just over seven minutes later. Sherry also closed the scoring with her second goal of the day in the 77th minute.
All three teams return to action this week, starting with home contests for both women's volleyball (vs. Western New England at 6 p.m.) and women's soccer (vs. Elms at 7 p.m.) Tuesday, Oct. 29. The swimming and diving team heads to Plymouth, N.H., to face Plymouth State University Friday, Nov. 1, starting at 4 p.m.
