Four Selected to Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team

WESTON, Mass. – Four Regis College student-athletes, two from the men's lacrosse team and two from the men's volleyball team, have been selected to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team, as the national organization of content creators announced the honorees Tuesday, June 25.

In order to be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District® Team, student-athletes must have posted at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, must be a sophomore or higher, and must have either played 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's official contests.

Owen Harney (Natick, Mass.) started 13 of the 14 matches he appeared in during the 2024 lacrosse season, finishing with career-high totals of 21 groundballs and five caused turnovers for the Pride. One of the team captains for the 2023-24 season, he was selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Lacrosse All-Sportsmanship Team. A three-time Academic All-GNAC honoree, Harney graduated in May with his bachelor's degree in humanities and secondary education.

John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.) appeared in 80 sets within 27 matches for the Regis volleyball team in 2024, finishing with 88 kills, a career-high 20 service aces, 35 defensive digs, and 46 total blocks. In just two seasons, he has moved into seventh place on the Regis all-time blocks list with 102 total blocks. Nangle earned Academic All-GNAC recognition this year and carries a 3.99 grade point average as a biomedical engineering major.

Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) was selected Second Team All-GNAC as he led the Pride from the libero position, concluding the season with 195 defensive digs, third in the GNAC and third-most in a single season at Regis. In two years as a graduate transfer, he accumulated 292 digs, tied for ninth in program history. A two-time Academic All-GNAC selection at Regis, he earned his master's degree in strategic sports communications in May.

Dylan Slichko (Wynantskill, N.Y.) started all 13 matches he appeared in, serving as a key member of the Regis defensive effort on the lacrosse field. He was tied for fourth on the squad with 39 groundballs, including consecutive matches collecting five groundballs at Rivier April 2 and at Dean April 6. Majoring in neuroscience, he recently received Academic All-GNAC honors as he concluded the year with a 3.67 grade point average.

Plagata has been selected as a finalist for Academic All-America® consideration, with the national ballot to be voted on by members of College Sports Communicators. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 17, 2024.
