Benjamin Happenny, Ashleigh Kelley Earn GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – Graduate student Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) and sophomore Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Track Athlete of the Week honors, announced Monday, Jan. 16, by the league office, after their performances at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational Saturday.

Kelley broke her own school record in the one mile run by 7.77 seconds with a time of 5:16.06 at The TRACK at New Balance, qualifying for the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. In a race that included competitors from Division I programs, Kelley finished second among runners from Division III schools and eighth overall.

At the same meet, Happenny posted a time of 2:07.54 in the 800 meter run, the best time in the GNAC so far this season. He finished 17th overall among a field that included Division I schools Boston College, Dartmouth, and UMass Lowell as well as top clubs and Division III programs.

The Regis College track and field team heads to Tufts University for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational Saturday, Jan. 21, with competition scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
